Apple has confirmed that the iPhone 15 battery is better than they initially thought, superior to that of any other iPhone.
Apple has made a curious announcement, one that rarely happens in the industry. The company claims to have retested the batteries of the entire iPhone 15 lineup and concluded that they are better than expected. Battery health and performance are crucial parameters for an iPhone, so this is very good news.
The iPhone 14 has been heavily criticized for excessive battery degradation. Apple has always maintained that iPhone batteries are designed to retain 80% of their original capacity after 500 charge cycles. However, the iPhone 15 batteries have proven to be better.
According to an updated Apple support document, the iPhone 15 batteries are capable of maintaining that same 80% capacity, but for 1,000 charge cycles. In other words, the battery will remain in better condition for twice as long as its predecessors.
The batteries in iPhone 14 and earlier models are designed to retain 80 percent of their original capacity after 500 full charge cycles under ideal conditions. * The batteries in iPhone 15 models are designed to retain 80 percent of their original capacity after 1,000 full charge cycles under ideal conditions.
A battery charge cycle is completed when you've used 100% of the battery's capacity, but not necessarily after a single discharge. Let's say you charge your iPhone to 100% and use 75% of the battery one day, then decide to fully charge it overnight. If you use 25% the next day, you will have completed one charge cycle of that battery: 75% from the first day and 25% from the second. In total, 100%.
Since you don't typically use 100% of an iPhone's battery every day, it's safe to assume that the 500 charge cycles we've had so far represent approximately two to two and a half years of use. This means that the iPhone 15 battery will last between four and five years before its capacity drops to 80%.
This is undoubtedly good news for anyone who owns an iPhone 15 or is considering buying one. Given that Apple guarantees updates for many years and that we now know the battery will hold up much better over time, these are very interesting devices.
